Payment Plans
Howard University offers payment plans for the Fall and Spring semesters only. Payment plans are designed to help you manage your educational expenses by dividing your eligible balance into monthly installments throughout the semester. To help you stay on track, please review the following important information about Howard University (HU) payment plans.
Students can enroll in the payment plan via BisonHub. There is a $45.00 non-refundable enrollment fee, and monthly payments are made based on the payment plan enrollment date. The payment plan is managed by TouchNet.
If paying with a credit card, a fee of up to 3% for domestic transactions and up to 4.25% for international transactions will apply.
Payment Plan Schedule
The HU payment plan includes scheduled monthly installments that must be paid by their due dates—typically the 15th of every eligible month. Payment plan schedules, enrollment periods, and installment due dates are established by the University and cannot be extended or modified. If you need to update the bank account or credit card used for your automatic payments, you may do so through Touchnet. Any changes must be made before the 5th of the month to take effect for your next scheduled payment. Payments are automatically deducted each month until the semester balance is paid in full.
- Fall installments are July through November.
- Spring installments are December through April
Please note that payment plan enrollment must occur within the current semester in which the student is enrolled. A student can only be enrolled in one payment plan at a time. We do not offer extensions beyond the plan term, which includes past-due balances, or payment plans for summer. Past-due balances will not be rolled into an active payment plan.
Payment Plans May Change
Your monthly payment amount is calculated using the information reflected on your student account at the time of enrollment, including:
- Accepted federal financial aid
- Accepted Howard University financial aid
- Posted scholarships
- Posted loans
- Current tuition and fee charges
- Housing and meal charges
As additional charges, scholarships, financial aid, loans, or payments are posted to your account, your payment plan will automatically adjust to reflect your updated balance.
Anticipated external scholarships, employer payments, private loans, and most 529 plan payments are not included in your payment plan calculation until the funds have been received by Howard University and posted to your student account.
Once those funds are received and applied, your payment plan should automatically recalculate.
Making Additional Payments
Making a payment outside of your scheduled payment plan does not replace your monthly installment. Your remaining, recalculated scheduled payments will continue as planned unless your payment plan is canceled.
Missed Payments
To remain in good standing, each monthly installment must be paid on time. If you miss a scheduled payment:
- Your payment plan will be canceled on the 20th of the month
- Your remaining balance will become immediately due
- You may become subject to University registration and collection policies for past-due balances and returned payment items
Note: Payment plans are subject to cancellation without notice.
Canceling Your Payment Plan
If you wish to cancel your payment plan, you must complete the Payment Plan Cancellation Form. To prevent your next scheduled payment from being drafted on the 15th of the month, your cancellation request must be submitted no later than the 5th of that month. Please allow up to three (3) business days for your request to be processed.
Canceling your payment plan does not eliminate your financial obligation to Howard University.
Once your payment plan is canceled, any remaining past-due balance will become immediately due and will be subject to the University's billing, registration, and collections policies.
